Your cooperative is a unique and special form of business. The best way to learn about member-controlled cooperatives is to form one. Each year, your cooperative sponsors one Heartland high school aged junior to attend the week-long Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The camp takes place in July and provides the opportunity of a lifetime. Young people from all over the country are guided by experienced councilors on how to establish and operate their own cooperative. Additionally, those who attend will enjoy the sights and attractions that Steamboat Springs has to offer.

To Qualify: The contest announcement and deadline will appear in the March quarterly issue of the Heartbeat Newsletter. The competition is open to all high school aged juniors whose parents are members of the cooperative. The competition outline is simple:

  • Submit a written essay titled: "Why I want to go to Steamboat    Springs, Colorado."

  • The essay is judged on the following criteria:

  • Willingness to be Involved; Content; and Appearance.

The winner of the competition will be notified by phone prior to the annual meeting and will be presented a trip certificate and $100 check at the annual meeting.
