Before starting a formal application, use this page to get a rough sense of what new electric service might cost. Add up the components that apply to your situation. Your final cost will be determined after a staking technician visits your site.

Aboveground service

An aboveground (overhead) line is run on utility poles from the nearest existing Heartland pole to your meter location.

Underground service

Heartland’s cost sharing contribution

For permanent residential services, Heartland contributes toward your line extension costs. You pay the full construction cost upfront, then receive a reimbursement check once your service qualifies.

Permanent service — standard
$2,000 back

Heartland reimburses $2,000 of your line extension construction cost once your service is confirmed as permanent.

How it works: You pay the full construction cost upfront. Once Heartland confirms that at least two of the three components below are in place, we’ll issue you a reimbursement check for $2,000.
Two of these three must be in place:

  • Foundation — a permanent perimeter foundation for the structure being served
  • Well or water system — a well or developed water system serving the property
  • Septic system — a permitted septic system serving the property

Heartland reserves the right to determine whether a project qualifies as permanent service.

Permanent service — all-electric
$3,000 back

If your new home or facility will be all-electric, Heartland’s reimbursement increases to $3,000.

How it works: You pay the full construction cost upfront. Once Heartland confirms that at least two of the three components above are in place, we’ll issue you a reimbursement check for $3,000.
Same permanent service qualifications apply. The all-electric designation is determined at the time of application.
About the $250 engineering deposit: When you submit your formal application, you’ll pay a $250 engineering deposit. This is not a fee you lose — it’s applied directly toward your construction costs when the project is built. If you decide not to proceed, it’s credited against any engineering work already performed.
