{"id":38535,"date":"2022-09-13T10:46:40","date_gmt":"2022-09-13T15:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heartland-rec.com\/?page_id=38535"},"modified":"2023-08-02T10:14:12","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T15:14:12","slug":"concern-for-community-grants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.heartland-rec.com\/community\/concern-for-community-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Concern for Community Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative\u2019s Concern for Community program provides grants of up to $5,000 for capital improvement projects throughout the Heartland service area.<\/p>\n<h2>Applying for a Grant<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications are accepted during a defined application period each year<\/li>\n<li><strong>The application period for 2023 is now closed.<\/strong> Awardees will be selected in August and checks will be distributed in September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>To qualify for a grant, a project must fit within one of the following categories:<\/p>\n<h3>County Fairs<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Projects related to county fairs in the Heartland service area, with a focus on infrastructure projects and other projects that are not supported by normal fair sponsorships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Schools<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Schools within the cooperative\u2019s service area that have capital campaigns for facilities that would positively impact Heartland consumer-members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Non-Profit Organizations<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-profit organizations undergoing capital campaigns with facilities that focus on education, environment, culture and the arts, and civic and community development that would positively impact Heartland consumer-members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Other Projects<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Other projects that better the communities in or surrounding the cooperative\u2019s service area, as authorized by the board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Are Grants Funded?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Funds for Heartland&#8217;s Concern for Community Grants come from the cooperative&#8217;s <strong>unclaimed capital credit retirement checks<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Because that money was intended to support the local community, Heartland&#8217;s Board of Directors has decided to use those funds for community grants<\/li>\n<li>Grant money does not come from cooperative revenues and the issuing of grants will not impact future rates or capital credit allocations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Are Grants Awarded?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications will be scored by Heartland staff members<\/li>\n<li>The top-scoring applications will be given to the Heartland Board of Directors for final selection and approval in August<\/li>\n<li>Funds will be distributed in September<\/li>\n<li>In keeping with Heartland\u2019s goal of encouraging sustainable development, preference will be given to collaborative projects receiving support from other sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have any questions, reach out to Doug Graham at <a href=\"tel:+1-620-724-5526\">(620) 724-5526<\/a> or <a href=\"mailto:dougg@heartland-rec.com\">email Doug<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative\u2019s Concern for Community program provides grants of up to $5,000 for capital improvement projects throughout the Heartland service area.
